Why You Should Buy Wool Rugs

With so many choices of fibers on the market when you are looking for an area rug, you may be wondering why rugs wool should be on your list of options. There are many synthetic fibers that you can choose from, but these yarn fibers do not have the advantages that natural fibers have.
Synthetic fibers are made from various man made materials including plastic. These fibers are not as environmentally friendly as a rug that is made from a naturally occurring fiber such as wool.

Wool is made from a sheep’s fleece, and only quality wool is used to make the rugs that are imported to the United States.

Other Advantages To Choosing Wool Rugs

Wool also has an advantage over other natural fibers such as cotton. Rugs that are made from cotton are perfect for areas of the home that are considered low traffic. Cotton rugs also fare better in areas where they will not be subjected to spills and stains. Cotton fibers tend to be less stain resistant, and after heavy foot traffic, the fiber will pack down.

Classy Wool Rug

Cotton rugs are suggested for use in small areas of the home, and they can be machine or hand washed easily.

Wool rugs on the other hand are very stain resistant. Fleece contains natural oils and these oils allow the wool to repel stains and spills easily. You should not mistake wool for being stain proof; it is only more resistant to staining due to the oils. These oils are:

•          Keratin
•          Cholesterin
•          Lanolin

Keratin is found on the bodies of several different animals including sheep and birds. The oil helps prevent the growth of fungus on the animal’s body, whereas the other two oils help keep stains from sticking to the fibers.

A wool rug is an excellent choice in an area of the home that receives a lot of foot traffic. The fibers will not flatten or crush like other fibers. Less expensive area rugs are often made with polyester, and these rugs are not durable. After a short period of time the rugs will become flatter.

Organic Wool Rug

Polyester rugs are used quite often as bathroom rugs. They have latex backing and the rugs can become extremely difficult to vacuum and maintain. You will not get the value for your money when you purchase these types of rugs.

A wool rug would be the better alternative. These types of rugs are durable and can withstand the wear and tear that is associated with rooms in the home that are used often.

When you purchase an area rug that is made from wool, you can instantly transform any room in your home with a quality rug that will mesmerized your guests. The rugs will shed very little, will not curl up and will not smell.

Wool rugs can be used as transitional area rugs. The craftsmanship of the rugs is second to none.  You will appreciate the plushness and fullness of these rugs, and will enjoy the addition that they add to your home.
